Kevin HellChief Executive Officer -
Kevin Hell is Chief Executive Officer of DivX, Inc. and a member of its Board of Directors.
Over the past seven years, Hell has been instrumental in transforming DivX into a market leader in the rapidly emerging digital video market, connecting high quality Internet content with consumer electronics. He has served as DivX's Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Operating Officer and President, and was responsible for the growth of the company's highly profitable global consumer device licensing business. Under his leadership, DivX has become a strong global brand with an ecosystem that encompasses an installed base of hundreds of millions of devices, a large international community of DivX users, and formidable relationships with major consumer electronic companies and Hollywood studios. Since he joined the company in 2002, DivX has grown from under $3 million in annual revenue and 35 employees to $94 million in annual revenue and more than 300 employees by the end of 2008.
Before joining DivX, Hell served as Senior Vice President of Product Management for Palm's Solutions Group, where he managed the Palm branded products and wireless services division worldwide. As the Vice President of the Connected Home for Gateway Computers, Hell was responsible for pioneering innovative digital home products beyond the PC. Hell also worked with The Boston Consulting Group for seven years assisting clients in the high-technology, telecommunications and entertainment markets. Earlier in his career, he served as a systems engineer with Hughes Aircraft Company responsible for overall mission design on numerous satellite and interplanetary spacecraft programs.
While he is a veteran in the digital media and connected home markets, Hell also possesses an interest in film and movie making. He was the executive producer for the short film "Some Folks Call it a Sling Blade" that was the basis for the blockbuster film "Sling Blade" starring Billy Bob Thornton.
Hell received an MBA in finance and management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and an MS and BS in engineering from Stanford University. -
Dan HalvorsonExecutive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer -
Dan Halvorson, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, joined the DivX family in June 2007. Dan is responsible for investor relations, as well as financial and administrative decisions, including providing supply-related support to our operational teams. He brings two decades of financial and accounting experience to the position.
Before setting his sights on DivX, Novatel Wireless named Dan as its Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer in 2004. He joined before Novatel's IPO in 2000 and during his tenure, he helped grow the company's annual revenue from $33 million to nearly $400 million. He served as Director Finance for Dura Pharmaceuticals from 1998 to 2000 and for Alliance Pharmaceutical from 1996 to 1998. Dan also worked for eight years as a Certified Public Accountant for both Deloitte & Touche and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Dan enjoys the San Diego lifestyle and spending time with his wife and three children. Dan enjoys travelling with his family and is also an avid runner. Dan holds a bachelor's degree from San Diego State University. Go Aztecs! -
David RichterExecutive Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs -
As Executive Vice President of Corporate Development and Legal, David is responsible for overseeing our corporate development and legal efforts. In his prior positions at DivX, he worked on legal, business development and corporate development activities.
Before joining DivX in 2004, David was a Principal at Maveron, a venture capital firm focused on consumer-oriented startups. Prior to that, he was Associate General Counsel and Director of Business Development at drugstore.com and in private law practice in Los Angeles. David was a Luce Scholar in China where he taught intellectual property law at China University of Politics and Law and consulted for CITIC, the Chinese government's investment bank.
David has a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a JD from Yale Law School. He clerked for Judge Alfred T. Goodwin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. -
Eric RodliExecutive Vice President, Licensing -
Eric joined DivX in July 2008 and is now Executive Vice President, Licensing. In this role, Eric oversees the global sales and marketing organizations as they continue to innovate, execute and deliver new products and services targeted towards improving the digital media experience.
Prior to joining to DivX, Eric was the Senior Vice President and General Manager at Macrovision, where he focused on their worldwide entertainment and studio customers, building strong relationships with the Motion Picture Association of America and independent studios. Before that, Eric spent seven years at Eastman Kodak, serving as President of the global Entertainment Imaging division, where he was responsible for the sales, marketing, R&D, digital operations and technical support of this Kodak business unit with over $1 billion in revenues and over 1,000 employees. Eric has also served as President of Bexel Corporation, a partner in the entertainment strategy practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting Group, President of Iwerks Entertainment and a manager at the Boston Consulting Group.
Eric holds an MBA from the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business, and a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of California at San Diego. Eric is happy to be back in San Diego and has the ambitious goal of becoming the top ping-pong player at DivX. -
Mike HarrisSenior Vice President and General Manager -
Mike Harris is Senior Vice President and General Manager, Connected Devices at DivX. He was previously CEO and co-founder of AnySource Media, guiding the development of its market leading Internet television streaming platform. In September 2009, AnySource was acquired by DivX and the AnySource technology became the foundation of DivX's Internet TV solution.
A successful serial entrepreneur, Mike has led numerous venture-backed companies in the digital entertainment space. He was the founder and CTO of Ravisent Technologies Inc., a provider of market leading software technology to the digital entertainment industry. Mike oversaw the development and adoption of Ravisent's technology by leading PC and consumer electronics manufacturers. After a successful IPO, Ravisent's Consumer Electronics Division was acquired by STMicroelectronics in 2001, and Mike became its Group Vice President, Global Software Strategy.
After STMicroelectronics, Mike served as President of Digital 5, a venture backed software provider enabling streaming media content within the connected home, and later became President of OpenPeak, a provider of software for home media control.
Mike is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering. -
Johnny ChenGeneral Counsel -
Johnny was appointed DivX General Counsel in July 2007 and currently oversees the DivX legal team. Most recently, he served as Associate General Counsel, with primary responsibilities in SEC compliance and corporate governance, technology licensing, financings and intellectual property. Before that, he was our Senior Director of Intellectual Property, overseeing the company's intellectual property portfolio and legal enforcement efforts.
Prior to joining DivX back in September 2004, Johnny was an associate at Rope & Gray in Boston, representing technology and life sciences companies in the areas of corporate, licensing and intellectual property law. He also has experience in the areas of litigation as an associate at Irell & Manella in Los Angeles, and patent prosecution as an associate at Darby & Darby, New York City.
Johnny holds a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Columbia University, spent a year abroad at Cambridge University (Pembroke College), and received his JD from Yale Law School. -
Karen FisherVice President of Investor Relations & Compliance -
Karen serves DivX as its Vice President of Investor Relations & Compliance. In this role, she is responsible for developing, executing and managing the investor relations and compliance programs.
With experience that spans over 18 years, Karen began in corporate compliance and communications for Reinhardt Werba Bowen in 1985. She moved up to investor relations at 3com Corporation in 1990 and in 1991 she became the Director of Corporate Communications for Robertson Stephens. From 1993 to 1996, she served as the Assistant Director for the Arizona Securities Division where she interfaced with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the NASDAQ and other securities regulatory organizations. In 2003, she was made VP of Investor Relations and Compliance for BakBone Software and, prior to that, served as VP of Investor Relations & Corporate Communications for MP3.com.
Karen attended Arizona State University and graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in communications and finance. Currently she is President of the San Diego Chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) and serves on the NIRI National Committee for its annual leadership conference.
